A Montana ranching family faces off against others encroaching on their land

Kevin Costner is the patriarch who presides over a dynastic ranch the size of several countries. Their way of life is influenced by tourist developers, tribal laws, and the Montana state government. Reminiscent of Rock Hudson in “Giant,” he tries to stick to the old ways.
Costner seems to take on the role of his character naturally
“Yellowstone” moves quickly and needs no introduction, but its story unfolds in the natural rhythms of a desert day, pausing for tribal rituals, cowboy conventions, and political machinations. This is a far-reaching adventure that focuses on the intersection of law and justice, family and friendship. He is a world-weary man who has seen too much and lied too often.
The land and his family are his soul
He hears footsteps approaching, but he can only fulfill his role out of habit and loyalty. While some of the action is a bit confusing due to the lack of explanation, it feels natural, as if the viewer is getting a real glimpse into life in another world. I hope the resolution of this saga will come with an emotional payoff that justifies its breadth and attention to detail.

Update 7/20/18: After four episodes, the series has a strong voice and a steady rhythm. We get the full story of each story, from roots to fruition.
